"sometimes when you fall, you don't need catching"___________________
“Look inside yourself, and you’ll find the answer to everything.” Something that her mother said to her long ago, but she never understood. She didn’t have the answer to everything, and it was extremely stupid to think that she did. She didn’t comprehend why her mother would say that to her, when it’s obviously wrong. There were so many questions that she had asked her mother, like why they were so rich and some families were poor. She also asked random things like why is the grass green and the sky blue and she always got the same answer. Yes, Melissa Harding was confused about the reply her mother always gave her, but she had come to a conclusion, her mother only answered the questions with that answer to make Melissa think about it more, or because she didn’t know. It was most likely the latter one.
Melissa was waiting the court yard, sitting on one of the tables. The tables had chairs around them, but Melissa always like sitting on the tables; it made her feel taller because she looked down on the people who sat with her. It wasn’t very often that she did, so it was a good feeling for her. She also liked looking small, and with her petite figure and her legs swinging backwards and forwards she looked exactly that. With a little innocent smile she daydreamed, giving people the impression that she was cute. Those who knew Melissa well would know that although she looks cute, she is far from it. A lot of the time her and her friends are in fits of laughter about something she has said, because she usually makes fun of the people walking past. Melissa is the first one to finish her classes, so she is always waiting for her friends. Sometimes it sucked being a alone for 5-10 minutes, but other times it was awesome because she could eat as much as she wanted without being judged. Also, she got more of a lunch then they did.
In her opinion, Hoffman Academy is famous for having some of the biggest snobs in all of London. Course, being a school where only the rich and talented get in doesn’t help. You’ll get the odd normal person like Vanessa and Melissa who loves a good joke, but they aren’t common. So Melissa and Nessa make fun of all of those people, saying jokes as they walk past, guessing their pasts and making it look like they are saying something when they aren’t. It’s their lunchtime entertainment, and it’s pretty popular, a lot of people come and sit with them, to either look like they have friends or to have a good laugh with them. Some people walk past with their skirts high and the chest thrusted high to make it look like they are the top shit, and if someone like that even tries to come and talk to Melissa, they get put back in their place straight away.
Melissa is arrogant, she knows that she is better then everyone else in the school. Apart form her friends, she thinks of them on the same royalty level as herself. She knows that she is not the most perfect girl but she knows she has a better personality then those creeps. For starters she actually has one, she’s not just some BBBBB, (big boobed blind blonde bimbo) with her mind stuffed with what other people want them to think. Melissa couldn’t stand them, they just made her so angry, why would they waste their life on being an empty shell? That’s why Mel thought she was better then them, she had gotten more out of life then they ever could have. They may have more shoes, but Mel has more happy memories. Melissa stared and the ground, her feet still swinging, waiting for her friends to arrive as she, once again, was consumed by her thoughts.

I'm in the business of misery_____________________________
Vanessa Lewis was not the friendliest person in the world. Most people knew that and respected that, keeping their distance from her. On the occasion one brave soul would come up to talk to her, only to be put back into their place. Offended and hurt, they would run back to their oh-so-precious friends and complain. Vanessa would just stand there laughing at them all, mostly with Melissa Harding. Vanessa always had her best laughs with Mel and she always enjoyed her company. In fact, Vanessa was running to meet her right then.
Class really was a bitch. Vanessa hated it, hated it so much she could scream. But that was really unnecessary. The only reason she went to class was in the hope that she would actually learn something important. Almost all the time, she waited in vain. Nothing the teaches said was important and was not going to help them in later life. But seriously, what was the point of theory work? How was she supposed to become successful and all that crap if this school isn’t supporting her. She didn’t know why she put up with it. The only time she really enjoyed herself was at lunch where she could laugh with all her friends. Why couldn’t the teachers respect her wishes?
Just a few minutes ago she had been sitting in class, drawing on the tables and staring out the window. What was the pointless boring work when she would so much rather hanging with her friends? She wasn’t going to concentrate so why make her? Unfortunately the teachers didn’t see it her way and yelled at her endlessly. They tried to give her extra work that she wouldn’t do unless it was important. Unsuccessfully punished her while she just sat there smiling at them. They should seriously get over it. Vanessa was different and wasn’t going to change for anyone.
So Vanessa was practically jogging out to where she usually meets Melissa. To the tables. They always sat there together, Melissa sitting on the actual table and Vanessa sitting next to her, resting her feet on her best friends lap. Occasionally she would sit on the seats like everyone else but why? As Mel and Nessa would often say, why be normal when you can be ABNORMAL! A bit lame, yes, but true all the same. Why would you want to be a BBBBB when you could be so much better?
Finally Vanessa sat down next to Mel, ignoring the seats as if they weren’t there. She lay her feet on Melissa’s lap as usual and said “`Sup bitch?” She didn’t mean this offensively and Mel knew that. She knew that Vanessa was just mucking around. Smiling, Vanessa rested her wait on her hands behind her and waited for Mel to speak.

Colton had been sitting rather boredly in class, noticing the sideway glances and whispering as the students practically attacked him with their eyes. What a nice start to the year although they must be wondering who he was and why he 'transferred' into their school in the middle of the year. Most didn't know him or his past and he was grateful; his past wasn't a very nice one. Colton had a hunch that most of the students would be increasingly wealthy but not to this extent. It was amazing what money did to you; it would mould someone of high principles to a money driven, status obsessed, and almost plastic human who seemed to fit the definition of perfect; whatever that was.
The eighteen year old finished his work as half the people filed out, chattering about only God knows what. He stood and moved towards the front where the professor was sitting, evaluating him as well. His right hand gave the man his paper and as he was about to leave, the teacher called him back. A quick glance around the class provided the answer to the question in his head; how much was he going to get embarassed? By the looks of it, a lot. Halting at the front of the desk, he heard something totally out of place that took Colton a couple of seconds to realize what had just been asked. The question was: Are you really the kid who committed first degree murder and was sent here as punishment?
Colton gave the curious but out of line man a look of disgust and anger started to make its way through his body. How dare he pose such a question with students in the class and furthermore, it was none of his business anyways.
Think about it, Prof. I'm sure you'll come to the right conclusion.
The Australian replied icily as he let his anger grab hold of his body. Turning, he then left the room and the puzzled aged man who had given in to curiosity. Bursting out of the doors into the courtyard after visiting his form of locker, Colton moved across the manicured lawn as the familliar feeling of pairs of eyes watching his every move once again followed him. Everwhere he went, he knew people were shooting him glances and waiting for him to fuck up; it was like dogs nipping at his heels, daring him to trip and fall and become their dinner.

"sometimes when you fall, you don't need catching"___________________
Melissa Harding could remember being young like it was yesterday. She was still young today, but when she was younger she could remember all of the little games she used to play. She had no props, nothing but pure imagination was in her games. She would bounce on the trampoline, or run around with her dog, and she’d play for hours on end, filled with nothing but utter enjoyment. Those days were so easy, she didn’t need to worry about anything but saving the day. She would go to sleep at night and dream about more impossible things. And then she’d wake up in the morning, and start a brand new game, then dream about it at night and so the cycle went, all until she began to grow up.
Mel could remember the day her parents wanted her to get more serious, and she could still remember the loathing she felt for them when they said that. Melissa had no choice but to do what they had said, they sold her trampoline and dug out the old stump and poor Woof had died. Her brothers, her last resort had gotten to caught up in video games to play with her anymore. So she opened her first book, and began to get absorbed in someone else’s life, seeing someone else’s world though someone else’s life. It was nearly as good as playing the games, but the pictures in her head where much more vivid then anything she could ever imagine.
Melissa was jolted out of her day dreams with a jolt, her friend Vanessa had now joined her and had the lower part of her legs on rested on Mel’s thighs. ’Sup bitch?' she said in their usual casual form of insulting each other. “Now now, Vanessa, play nicely or you won’t get to play at all.” she said cheekily, smiling because Melissa had said what Nessa said the day before. “Well, a lot of things are up, for starters, your head is up your arse.” she said, laughing, Vanessa knew that Melissa didn’t mean it, and Nessa would most likely get her back anyway. Just to be sure, she added “Oh, you know I joke-” but she was cut off by a crashing noise.
A bot that she recognized as Colton walked past and somebody tripped him over, saying something about not belonging. “Hey! Back off, tool! He belongs with us.” The guy gave her an evil look before retreating back to his friends, everyone knew that for Melissa’s size, she was a viscous thing with a killer left hook. “Come sit with us,” she said smiling her flirtatious smile that she knew was sexy. “I’m Melissa, this is Vanessa,” She got off the table and helped him up before returning to the exact same position as she was before. She gave the boy who tripped him over another evil stare, who was no doubt telling his friends how much of a bitch Melissa was. Oh well, she was used to it, at least they know not to cross her.

I'm in the business of misery ______________________
Oh, the days when life was simple, where you could run around and say the silliest things without anybody caring. Those were the days. Lucky for Vanessa they never really left her. She still acted pretty much the same as she did when she was young, though her insults had gotten a lot better. It was either she had never had a childhood or she never grew up. There was evidence to support both views but if you really think about it, she still acts like a child. Trying to do her own thing, not a care in the world and everything being so simple that it was almost boring. You see, everything had come to Vanessa quite easily. Everything from her talent to her clothes, boys to happiness, nothing was ever hard for Vanessa. Nothing except friends that is. Vanessa wasn’t referring to Melissa when she thought this but friends were just too much of a hassle. First of all you had to be friendly and kind and caring to them which just wasn’t Vanessa’s thing. Then you had to give them constant attention whether you wanted to or not. All the time, making sure they are alright, listening to their whining and crying about how unfair life is. Well if they hadn’t noticed, life was pretty fair to them. Especially since their problems had to do with their own mistakes.
Vanessa gave Melissa a look of complete shock, before smiling cheekily and letting out a small burst of laughter. “All these years and your insults have never gotten much better,” she said playfully. “So bad in fact that you have to steal one of mine,” she added, referring to her first comment. Oh when had this madness started, you may ask? When had this pathetic teasing began? Well it was a long time ago from that day, when they had both first came to Hoffman. Vanessa had already came to the conclusion that everyone in the school was stuck up, until she met Melissa. There was something different with her, something that she could only see in herself. She was just so much funnier and happier than the rest of the students; she was willing to have fun. Ever since that fateful day when she had introduced herself, they had started this small ongoing battle. Mel and Nessa, you never see one without the other.
Suddenly, a crashing noise cut off their small game and gained their attention. A boy that Vanessa knew as Colton had been tripped over by some kid. Before she could do anything however, Melissa had already claimed him. Vanessa lifted her legs off of Melissa a second before she jumped up and ran to the Australian on the ground. Vanessa leant back, smiled sexily and watched him being helped up by Melissa. Then Melissa sat back right where she had been before and Vanessa whispered in her ear “Lucky…” Her eyes never left Colton for a second. Eyes squinted slightly, she wondered whether she should, as Melissa would say, ‘have her way with him’. Oh-so-cruel Vanessa you may say? Well, did she look like she cared? Of course not.
So if you haven’t noticed yet, Vanessa is obviously quite a flirt. But she isn’t the type of girl to get into all that romantic mushy stuff, no. Vanessa hated serious relationships, chick flicks and happy endings. They were boring and that’s not what life was supposed to be like. To her, life was supposed to be crazy and all over the place until you die. Of course nobody wants to die but its always going to happen. And who really wants to end unhappy and bored out of their wits. Even if they were in a well preserved body, what was the point. Vanessa would rather stumble in, body completely used up with bottle of wine in one hand and a tub of strawberries in the other while screaming “WOO! WHAT A RIDE!!” To Vanessa, that is what life is truly about. It isn’t about who dies the best, its about living the way you want to live. She wanted to live completely all over the place, just like life was intended for her.

Colton'd been fuming when he was walking through the courtyard, minding his business when some jackass decided it would be funny to trip him. His hands caught his fall and as he was starting to get up, he heard a female backing him up. Turning his head towards where he thought she spoke, his aqua eyes found her now at his side helping him up. He could have gotten mad and yelled at both Melissa and the jerk who'd tripped him due to humiliation but Colton wasn't one to cause a scene.
He caught her flirtatious smile and grinned, making his way over to where someone named Vanessa was sitting. This could get complicated; Melissa and Vanessa. Both 'essa's. Even thought he felt even more eyes penetrating into his skull, Colton brushed it off. It didn't matter anyways; he couldn't do anything about it even if he tried to cover it up with a lame excuse. Nope, all he could do was take advantage over this situation; at least he'd met two more people that he could consider 'friends'.
The eighteen year old moved to the bench where the two girls had relocated themselves; rather Melissa had relocated herself. Stepping up, he sat at the edge beside his saviour, so to speak, and glanced over to see Vanessa's eyes piercing into his. Giving a friendly smile, Colton spoke, now officially introducing himself.
I'm Colton, by the way. Thanks for having my back Melissa. I appreciate it.
His attention turned from Vanessa to her friend who'd done Colton a favour by not sitting back like everyone else and watched the stuck up idiot make a fool of him. His words were genuine as he gave a half smile that was almost, or better, as good as his grin. Colton wondered how big of an influence Melissa was, considering the guy backed off after she'd yelled at him. Colton didn't need anyone to look out for him; he could take care of himself just fine although was a bit relieved that not all the students at this school had something out for him.
